Server 2012 r2 Deduplication and Windows XP

I was having issues with Windows XP clients not able to open xls, bmp, etc files on a volume that had been deduped. Windows 7 clients had no issue at all. It ended up being tracked back to enableecp registry entry

I was able to change HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\enableecp to 0 on the file server and restarted the server service and now the XP client isn’t getting any error messages on opening up files.

 

Note: This key is not on server 2012 by default .
